Mumbai: An anonymous letter alleging some employees helping selected contractors by interfering SAP system caused a stir in Brihan Mumbai Municipal Corporation circles on Wednesday. Soon after the letter grab attention of the employees, demand has been made for wide-ranging probe into this matter.
Slamming the administration, Mayor Kishori Pednekar and opposition leader Ravi Raja have expressed ignorance about the letter.
Employee, contractor racket exposed
There have always been allegations of nexus between administrative officials and contractors. Now, an anonymous letter has been sent to BMC commissioner, all additional commissioners, IT departments chiefs, chief engineers of all departments, group leaders of all political parties and Mumbai police. The letter alleges that BMC employees are helping selected contractors by interfering in SAP system. This is said to be an attempt to expose the racket of employees and contractors.
The sender of the letter has also demanded to probe into the matter. Now, questions are being raised about whether the administration will take note of this letter or not.
Contracts to certain companies
The letter received by BMC on 28th January demanding a thorough probe into the tender process of three contract companies. The sender has raised doubts about IT and SAP department employees.
It is alleged that some contractors know in advance the bids of other contractors with the help of IT employees and then gets a contract by submitting lesser bids. The sender has presented a list of how companies which are getting contracts in this way.
The scams that became infamous a few years ago, a road contract scam was unearthed in BMC.
A contractor when complained to the then-mayor Snehal Ambekar and the probe unearthed the scam. The action was taken against some 200 engineers and contractors. The practice of knowing in advance bids by other contractors using login and password of SAP system was earlier also unearthed.
No information about the letter
Opposition leader Ravi Raja said that he heard about the letter, but it is not sent to him till now. Meanwhile, Mayor Kishori Pednekar said that he comes to know about the letter on the same day but it has not been handed over to him.
