Ahmednagar: Social activist Anna Hazare, on Sunday, warned that he would go on a hunger strike this month if the Union government fails to meet the demands of farmers including the implementation of the recommendations made by MS Swaminathan Commission.
The 83-year-old anti-corruption crusader released a press statement which said that the government has been ignoring them for the last three years.
Implementation of the MS Swaminathan Committee's recommendations and the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices’ autonomy are part of Hazare's demands.
Earlier in December, Hazare had written a letter to Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar, warning of a hunger strike if his demands were not accepted.
Notably, senior BJP leader and former Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Bagade, MP Bhagwat Karad and former minister Girish Mahajan had met Hazare recently and gave him the details of the three farm laws introduced by the Centre.
Hazare had on December 8 observed a fast in support of the Bharat Bandh called by farmers’ organisations seeking a repeal of the Agri laws.
Farmers have been protesting at Delhi borders for more than a month against the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
