CBI has filed an inquiry report before a Special court in Mumbai into corruption allegations against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh made by former Mumbai police chief Param Bir Singh.

Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Saturday filed an inquiry report on the continuing probe for alleged corruption charges against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh. The report was filed before a Special CBI court in Mumbai.

The central agency has appraised the court regarding the probe and the materials seized during the raids.

The report is based on the evidence collected so far during various search operations and statements of several witnesses, a senior CBI official stated.

The CBI had lodged an FIR against Deshmukh and others in connection with allegations made by former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh.

Singh filed criminal public interest litigation seeking a CBI probe against Deshmukh, who he claimed asked police officers, including suspended cop Sachin Waze, to extort Rs 100 crore from bars and restaurants. However, the minister denied any wrongdoing.

Deshmukh was booked for criminal conspiracy for an alleged attempt to obtain an undue advantage through an improper and dishonest performance of public duty.

Recently, the CBI had conducted searches at Deshmukh's premises in Mumbai and his hometown in Nagpur. He was also interrogated by the CBI for seven hours.

CBI has also recorded statements of complainant Dr Jaishri Patil, former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh and Sachin Waze in connection with the case.
