Bhopal: In a harrowing case of sexual assault, a 24-year-old woman was abducted and raped by a person in the Kolar police station area in Madhya Pradesh's Bhopal, police said on Friday.
The accused in the case have been arrested and sent to judicial custody while the woman is battling for her life at a hospital in Bhopal.
Multiple searches were conducted after the matter was reported to the police.
As per the police investigation, the girl was abducted on January 18 by an unidentified person, who raped her at a lonely place, stoned her to severe injury and fled the spot after committing the crime.
Later, the girl was rescued soon after locals heard her scream and admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. The doctors said that the victim was unable to speak as she was sustained major injuries and was in deep mental trauma and shock.
Meanwhile, based on the statement of the victim and the CCTV footage, police arrested the accused under IPC sections 307 (attempt to murder), 376 (rape) and sent him to judicial custody.
On being informed about the incident, Bhopal Collector Avinash Lavania met the victim at the hospital and assured the victim's family that whatever expenses will be incurred in the treatment of the victim will be given from the Chief Minister's Fund.
Speaking to media persons here, Bhopal DIG Irshad Wali said," In this case, a team has been formed under the leadership of Chief Superintendent of Police, who will investigate it and the accused will be punished.
Earlier we have arrested the accused under section 354 IPC (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) but when we got the victim's statement and her medical report, we have now increased the punishment of the accused. Further investigation is underway."
