Loco pilot among two dead after freight trains collide in MP's Shahdol

Two railway employees were killed when a moving freight train hit a stationary goods train and then derailed in Madhya Pradesh's Shahdol district on Wednesday, rail officials said.

Two goods trains collided with each

Shahdol (Madhya Pradesh): Two people including a loco pilot died after two goods trains collided with each other at Singhpur railway station in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday morning. The engines of the trains caught fire following the collision.

All the trains on Bilaspur- Katni route were also affected due to the mishap. Railway officials said that the collision took place at around 6.45 am on Wednesday. Railway officials rushed to the spot and the engineering department too was been pressed into service to clear the mess.

According to official sources, a goods train with engines attached to both its ends was parked at Singhpur railway station. Another freight train coming from Bilaspur collided with the engine of the stationary train after which the engines of both trains caught fire. Firefighters and emergency services rushed to the spot on receiving information. Trains on this route were shifted to other routes due to this accident.

Shahdol district collector Vandana Vaidya told reporters that one of the railway personnel injured in the freight trains accident died. Two out of the five other injured are in critical condition and undergoing treatment at the local government medical college, she said. Later one among the injured succumbed.

The incident, which disrupted traffic on Bilaspur-Katni rail route, took place due to signal overshoot at around 6.45 am near Singhpur station, which falls under Bilaspur railway division, an official from South East Central Railway (SECR) said. At least 10 trains operated on the route have been cancelled, he said.

The dead body of one loco pilot was recovered and sent to the hospital for post mortem examination. Rescue teams, ambulances, Railway officials, RPF teams rushed to the spot on information, while the firefighters doused the blaze. Sources said the officials launched a thorough probe into the mishap to ascertain the cause of collision.
