NHAI proposes to build country's 2nd largest ring road in Madhya Pradesh's Indore

The Director NHAI presented the initial proposal to the Madhya Pradesh government at a high level meeting.

Indore: The National Highway Authoroty of India (NHAI) has proposed to build the country's second largest ring road in Madhya Pradesh's Indore in a bid to decongest the traffic and connect the city to five national highways, officials said. It is learnt that the NHAI has proposed three road lengths of 140 km, 145 km and 161 km to the Madhya Pradesh government in this regard.

The estimated cost of the Ring road will be Rs 6000 crore, an official said. As per an official, the initial proposal for the Western ring road project was presented by the Director NHAI presented to the Madhya Pradesh government at a high level meeting at Residency Kothi. Divisional Commissioner and District Collector Indore were also present at the meeting.

It is learnt that the proposal was approved by the state government at the meeting with the NHAI to file a detailed project report to the state government and the Ministry of Transportation in coming weeks. Indore MP Shankar Lalwani said that three proposals with regard to the location of the ring road have been sent to the Centre.

According to the Indore MP, the state government has proposed to build the ring road in the periphery of 16 km, 18 km and 22 to 24 km from the central area of Indore. He said that Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has already given in-principle approval to the project. As per officials, the proposed ring road will have lanes, with two additional lanes dedicated to service roads on both sides.
