Vidisha (Madhya Pradesh): In a shocking case of medical negligence, the hand of a newborn turned black after doctors at a government hospital in Madhya Pradesh's Vidisha allegedly administered expired vaccine to the baby.
According to the family of the baby, who was born on August 26 at the Vidisha District Hospital, the doctors administered the expired vaccine, following which the infant's hand turned black.
Taking cognisance of the matter, district collector Pankaj Jain ordered for a probe.
"The right hand of the baby got affected with necrosis. I have spoken to doctors from Bhopal's Hamidi hospital. The hand might have to be amputated, as chances of saving it are bleak," said Jain.
Meanwhile, Vidisha MLA Shashank Bhargava wrote a letter to the Principal Secretary (Health) and demanded that the government bear the cost of treatment for the infant.
"The family was kept away from the infant for five days. When the infant was finally handed over, it was seen that the right hand was completely black due to negligence by the district hospital. Treatment for the infant has been arranged at Bhopal, but action must be taken against the doctors and the government must also adopt the kid as it is due to its negligence that the baby's future has been affected," Bhargava said.
Pertinently, this is not the first case of medical negligence at the hospital, as there have been instances of healthy kids dying at the ward in the past.
