Bhilai: A man beat his 35-year-old wife to death with a rod and later attempted to commit suicide at Chhawani in Madhya Pradesh's Bhilai on Saturday night after a domestic quarrel.
According to sources, the accused, identified as Rajkumar Patel (40) used to quarrel with his wife Anita Patel (35) every day over trivial issues.
The brawl broke out between the couple over some reason in the Saturday morning following which the irate husband started beating up his wife with an iron rod.
When she defended, Patel continued thrashing her to death and later on attempted to commit suicide by cutting his wrist but he was saved by neighbours who rushed him to a local hospital. He is undergoing treatment there.
After the incident came to fore, the neighbours informed the local police. On receiving information, Bhilai police reached the spot and recovered the body.
"The accused Rajkumar was demanding Rs 50 from his wife. As she refused to give him the money, the irate husband started beating up his wife with an iron rod killing her on the spot," said Vishwas Chandrakar, CSP, Chhawani PS.
"Later, the accused attempted to commit suicide by cutting his wrist, but the neighbours reached his house and rushed him to a local hospital, where he is undergoing treatment," Chandrakar added.
A probe has been initiated into the incident and further investigation is underway.
