Indore Special Task Force (STF) arrested three people for allegedly cheating National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) aspirants of Rs 5 crore on the promise of securing them MBBS seats.

Indore: Three persons have been arrested by Special Task Force sleuths on Tuesday from Madhya Pradesh's Indore for allegedly trying to secure seats for some candidates in medical colleges by using fraudulent means to clear the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test.

The accused persons have been identified as Sachin Uttarakar, Saurabh Srivastava, Shankar Manavatkar and police have started interrogating them.

According to STF official sources, The arrested persons cheated people in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Haryana, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana. Prima facie, it seems that they have cheated people of over Rs 5 crore.

"We have taken them into custody and are investigating the case. The accused had also set up offices at various places. They had also opened an office in the name of getting admission in various colleges in Gurugram of Uttar Pradesh and Haryana," an STF official said.

"We received information that the accused were in Mumbai and Acting on the reliable inputs, we raided at their office. The three accused have been arrested," he said.

"During the course of the investigation, We knew that the gang has cheated hundreds of people in the last 10 years. The gang used to steal data from coaching institutes and later they contacted parents and tricked their children into college from the quota of Director General of Health Services," the official added.

Further investigation is underway and police have launched a search operation to find other involvements, official sources added.
