Bhopal: As the acclaimed Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan left for heaven abode surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, Irrfan's batchmate, longtime friend and Director of National School of Drama, Alok Chatterjee shares his thoughts on Irrfan's life, theatre and cinema.

Alok Chatterjee expressed condolences and said that he frequently met Irrfan in the midst of shooting schedules and was close to actor's mother, Saeeda Begum, who breathed her last few days ago.

"He (Irrfan) was a fantastic actor and fought a long struggle to reach Bollywood. From Amitabh Bachchan to international actor Tom Hanks, he was popular among all. That is talent," Chatterjee said.

"The Indian cinema and the international arena has lost a gem," Chatterjee said paying his tribute to his longtime friend.

In early 2018, Irrfan had revealed his neuroendocrine tumour diagnosis. Irrfan Khan had penned a heartful letter revealing his rare condition. "Life is under no obligation to give us what we expect," Irrfan khan's message began with the words of Margaret Mitchell, while revealing the diagnosis.

"Surrounded by his love, his family for whom he most cared about, he left for heaven abode, leaving behind truly a legacy of his own. We all pray and hope that he is at peace. And to resonate and part with his words he had said, 'As if I was tasting life for the first time, the magical side of it," a statement read.
