Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): As many as 51 bodies have been recovered from the Sidhi bus accident site, where a bus carrying over 54 passengers, fell into a canal on Tuesday.
According to the information received from the Control Room, the bus submerged in deep water which caused a large number of fatalities.
The canal, which originates from Bansagar Dam, is about 22 feet deep. Due to the strong current, there were many problems in the rescue. About 4 hours after the accident, the bus was salvaged with the help of a crane at 11.45 am.
The bus was en-route to Rewa from Sidhi. Suddenly, the driver lost control over the vehicle and it fell into the canal under the Rampur police station area.
Seven people have been rescued, and the search operation is underway.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has left for Sidhi where he will meet the families of the victims. He said that the government will help them in every possible way.
Deputy Transport Commissioner AK Singh, who arrived at the accident spot, said that prima facie, it appeared that the bad condition of the road was the reason for the mishap.
Meanwhile, Congress targetted state transport minister Govind Singh state government after a picture of him having dinner at a function went viral.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted his condolences to families of the victims and called the accident "horrific."
He also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for kin of those who have lost their lives.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed anguish over the incident and said the government has decided to give an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakhs each for the next of kin of those who have lost their lives due to the bus accident in Sidhi. Rs 10,000 each has been given to them immediately.
He further said the rescue operation has been completed.
It is unfortunate that 45 bodies have been recovered, he added.
