Death of crows spark fear of bird flu in MP

Medical Education Minister Vishvas Sarang said that Madhya Pradesh is ready to deal with any type of disease. After batting coronavirus, preparations have been made to deal with the bird flu.

Bhopal: Following Rajasthan, a series of dead birds have been found in Madhya Pradesh at various locations. While the Animal Husbandry department has confirmed that samples from Indore, Mandsaur reveal the cause of death as bird flu, the results of samples sent from Dewas, Ujjain, and Agar are yet to be declared.

A large number of dead crows have been found in Delhi College of Indore where bird flu virus infection has been found in it, although according to preliminary information the type is not communicable. The animal husbandry department has already issued an alert to keep the flu from further spreading.

385 dead crows found so far

According to reports, 385 crows have died so far, of which 142 crows were found in the Daily College area of Indore, 100 crows were found in Mandsaur, 122 crows in Agar, 12 crows in Khargone, and 9 crows in Sehore. Dr RK Rokade, Director of Animal Husbandry Department confirmed that bird flu samples have been confirmed in Indore and Mandsaur and samples from other districts are being investigated.

Ibiza influenza virus (H5N1) is commonly found in poultry birds and H5N8 virus is found in crows. Until now, the crossover of the virus hasn't been found and it is under investigation. The husbandry department's doctor and the team of the corporation have taken cognizance in the initial investigation.

Forest department, Animal husbandry alerted

Director of Veterinary Department RK Rokade said that everyone is requested to be vigilant in any kind of situation and contact the authorities in case of sightings of dead crows and other birds. The guidelines provided by the Government of India have been issued in all districts.

The work of world flu surveillance is going on in all the districts and poultry farms, poultry market reservoirs, etc. Samples of crows and birds are being collected and sent regularly to the Indian High-Security Veterinary Research (NIHSAD) Bhopal for which the Animal Husbandry Department, Forest Department, Health Department, and all agencies are coordinating.

Swollen eyes, neck and head of the birds, excessive shedding of feathers, bluish marks on toes are all the symptoms of bird flu. Along with these, the birds stop eating the usual amount of food and they become less active.
