Thiruvananthapuram: As Kerala has recently witnessed an uptick in the number of Covid-19 cases, complete lockdown will be imposed in the state on July 31 and August 1. The test positivity rate escalated above 10 per cent recently.
The Central government has planned to send a six-member expert team to the state in order to assist in containment measures to curb the spread of virus. Union Minister for Health Mansukh Mandaviya said the expert team will help Kerala in its Covid resistance activities as a huge number of Covid cases are still being reported in the state every day.
"Central government is sending a six member team to Kerala headed by NCDC Director. A large number of COVID cases are still being reported in Kerala, the team will aid in the state’s ongoing efforts in COVID-19 management," Mansukh Mandaviya tweeted.
However, relaxations and restrictions based on the categorisation of local bodies on the basis of TPR will continue. Localities with TPR less than 5% is categorised as “Zone-A”, between 5% and 10% as Zone-B, between 10% and 15% as Zone-C and above 15% as Zone-D. The government has imposed partial lockdown in Zone-B, lockdown in Zone-C and triple lockdown in Zone-D.
Reportedly, a complete lockdown was in place during the weekend, July 24 and 25. On average, 17,443 cases are being reported in the state. Six districts have reported more than 10% TPR.
