Wayanad: The Legal Services Authority has now become the leading light for the tribal students of Wayanad to help them pursue law studies.

The District Legal Services Authority (LSA) now offers special coaching for the students to appear for the entrance examination to the National Law School. Such a programme is the first of its kind initiative in the country.

The understanding that there are no students pursuing law from the tribal communities in Wayanad prompted the District Legal Services Authority to initiate such a programme. The officials with the Integrated Tribal Development Programme are in full support for the programme.

Nine students from Kattu Naykkar tribal community are being imparted with month-long coaching, for preparing them to appear for the National Law School entrance exam. The coaching sessions have begun for the six girls and three boys with the Noolpuzha Model Residential School. Each candidate is to pay an examination fee of Rs 3500 for the entrance exam. The fee for all the 9 students would be borne by the Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP).

The education expenses for the students who clear the entrance exam and get admissions would be jointly borne by the LSA and the ITDP together.

The district chapter of LSA has submitted the project before the Kerala Legal Services Authority. Once recognised by the State authority, plans are to expand and reach out to people all over the State.
