Thrissur (Kerala): At least 18 persons working in an exhibition stall related to Thrissur Pooram tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday.
Most of them were shopkeepers and workers. All of them were put on quarantine. The contact list of these persons is being prepared.
Covid was confirmed among them in the tests conducted ahead of Thrissur Pooram. RT-PCR tests are mandatory for those who accompany the Pooram.
In view of the Covid surge, it has been decided on Monday to conduct Thrissur Pooram without allowing public participation. Pooram organisers, mahouts etc are allowed to participate in the festival.
Arrangements will be made for the people to watch the live broadcast of Pooram. There will be no 'Athachamayam' and 'Pakal Pooram'. Kudamattam ritual will be restricted for a short span of time. Major fireworks will be conducted with restrictions. Thrissur Pooram will be held on April 23.
