Kerala Cabinet gives nod to acquire land for Silver Line rail project

Silver Line is a semi high-speed railway line project from Thiruvananthapuram to Kasargod in Kerala. The total cost of the project is expected to be Rs 64,000 crore. Administrative sanction to avail Rs 2,100 crore for land acquisition was granted by the Cabinet.

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala cabinet has given its nod to acquire land for Silver Line, Thiruvananthapuram to Kasaragod semi high-speed railway line project. The project was given a green signal after administrative sanction to avail Rs 2,100 crore was granted for land acquisition, according to reports.

The total cost of the project is expected to be Rs 64,000 crore. Sources said Rs 33,000 crore will be borrowed as foreign loans and the rest of the amount will be shared by the state and the Centre.

As per estimates, the project would require 1,383 hectares of land and the cost would be Rs 13,256 crore. As much as 320 hectares of land would be acquired from Kochuveli to Chengannur in the first phase at an estimated cost of Rs 3,750 crore.

The Silver Line Expressway would pass through 11 districts. The trains on this Expressway are expected to Trains at a speed of 350 kmph.
