Thiruvananthapuram: In a big jolt to the Congress Party, veteran Congress leader from Kerala VM Sudheeran has decided to quit All India Congress Committee (AICC).
The senior leader has sent his papers to Sonia Gandhi to step down from the AICC membership, even as AICC General Secretary and In-charge of Kerala, Tariq Anwar, was supposed to meet him on Monday.
Earlier, Sudheeran, a former state party chief, had quit from the party's Political Affairs Committee (PAC) handed over his resignation letter to current Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee president K. Sudhakaran.
Though the high command has deputed Tariq Anwar, to resolve the issues between senior Congress leaders it remains to be seen how far he would be successful in putting an end to tussles between the party leaders.
According to reliable sources, veteran Congress leader VM Sudheeran reportedly may not reconsider his decision to quit PAC despite state leadership's bid to persuade him to take back his decision.
Tariq Anwar arrived in Thiruvananthapuram to meet Sudheeran in order to resolve the issues and differences among its members. However, it's a million-dollar question whether the former would be able to pacify the sulking Sudheeran to reconsider his decision.
