Solar scam fame Saritha Nair sentenced to 3 years jail in windmill case at Coimbatore

Saritha Nair and her husband Biju Radhakrishnan have been sentenced to three years in prison in relation to the windmill scam case. The couple floating a fraudulent company duped a Coimbatore based industrialist and a Trust at The Nilgiris of setting up windmills.

Saritha Nair sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in solar scam

Coimbatore: A trial court in Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu sentenced entrepreneur Saritha Nair and her husband Biju Radhakrishnan as well as their manager to three years imprisonment in connection over defrauding a Coimbatore industrialist and Nilgiri based trust on setting up windmills. Sessions Judge, Kannan also fined the couple Rs 10,000 each, failing which they will have to serve an additional 9 months in prison.

The windmill power scam involved a company, ICMS at Vadavalli in Coimbatore, floated by Saritha Nair, her husband Biju Radhakrishnan and claimed to be involved in setting up windmills. The company collected Rs 26 lakh from Coimbatore based Thiagarajan Mills and Rs 7 lakhs from The Nilgiris based Sri Abu Babaji Trust. A case in this regard was filed against Saritha Nair, Biju Radhakrishnan and their manager, Ravi at District Crime Branch at Coimbatore.

The case was being heard at JM - 6 court in Coimbatore and the sessions court pronounced the judgement in the case on Thursday. The judge finding the accused guilty sentenced them with three years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 each. The court also allowed them to go for the appeal giving them time till November 14.

Saritha Nair has earned notoriety in Kerala over solar scam where it was alleged that Nair with her political connections cheated people of installing solar panels. The total amount involved in the scam is reported to be around Rs 10 crores and had generated large scale protests in the state of Kerala. Former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy is also accused of accepting a bribe of Rs. 1.9 crore in this matter.
