Malappuram (Kerala): The pink water lilies bloomed abundantly at the paddy fields in Venjalippadam village offering a scintillating view to the local people.
These fields which were flooded during the recent rains are now covered in beautiful water lilies.
People from far and wide came to Venjalippadam village via the Tirurangadi-Tirur road to see the lilies.
Hundreds of people visit the fields at Venjalippadam to enjoy the mesmerizing beauty of the blooming water lilies.
According to locals, the water lilies have been blooming in these fields every year without fail for the past 15 years after the rainy season.
The flowers which bloom very early in the morning stays fresh without withering until 10.30 am. Even during COVID times, many visitors reach Venjalippadam to see enjoy the beautiful blooms, locals said.
"Earlier, white water lilies used to bloom here. When someone planted pink water lily seeds here, the white water lilies completely disappeared. Besides the locals and travellers, migratory birds also come here to unwind," a local said.
"Water lilies are also collected from here to make bouquets and garlands for the functions. Until the field is prepared for the next paddy crop, the water lilly blooms will remain here," he added.
