Chennai: The partially burnt body of a young man was found inside the premises of the IIT Madras on Thursday. Police have identified the deceased as a 22-year-old student from Kerala, Unni Krishnan Nair. The body was sent to Royapettah Government Hospital for post mortem. Sources said the body was spotted by sports coach Raju when he went to hockey field inside the campus at around 6:15 pm on Thursday.
Online classes have been going on in IIT after the campus was closed due to Covid-19 pandemic. Krishnan was living in a rented house in Latha Street in Chennai. Police said he went to the campus Thursday morning. A case has been registered and investigation is underway to ascertain whether it's a suicide or a murder, said police. He joined IIT Madras as project associate in April 2021 after completing B. Tech from Kerala.
