Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Transport Minister AK Saseendran on Thursday said that all the offices under the Motor Vehicle Department would go paperless from January 1.
Speaking to media, the minister said that it has been decided to facilitate most services online to avoid crowding at the offices.
For a person presently living abroad, the application to renew the driving license can be given online after uploading the medical fitness certificate from a doctor in their place.
Pollution test certification would be done online based on a uniform scale. Hereafter, the pollution certificate would be issued by the Motor Vehicle Department (MVD).
Minister Saseendran informed that there would be a relaxation in the decision to cancel the permits of the diesel auto-rickshaws as old as 15 years or more from January 1, 2021.
The temporary relaxation is being done considering the crisis that the Autorickshaw workers currently undergo, he said.
Saseendran said the Government is not currently considering to reduce the hiked bus ticket rates as of now.
At a time when the public transport system is in a deep crisis, plans are to strengthen the long-distance services.
The Government is to consider refixing the charges of KSRTC ordinary services back to the earlier rates, he added.
As many as 65 electric vehicles have been bought for the MVD’s Enforcement wing. Of these, 26 vehicles were flagged off by the Minister here on Thursday.
