Kottayam(Kerala): Following the latest sexual assault allegations, nuns from Kuravilangad convent have demanded action against Bishop Franco Mulakkal. Nuns have demanded security for the victim who gave a statement against the Bishop. They said that Bishop had put pressure on the victim as a result of which the victim did not file a complaint. However, the cops were ready to register a complaint.

Stating that the Bishop filed an appeal to prolong the trial, they said that the Church’s silence in the matter was equal to denying justice.

“Another nun giving a statement against Bishop Franco is a welcome move. The police should have registered a separate case over the statement. The Catholic Church must break its silence in the matter. Instead of standing with the ill-treated, the Church is still supporting those who had abused. The Church must refrain from crucifying the ill-treated,” nuns added.

However, nuns further said that many are ready to speak against the accused but they are withdrawing their statements due to the lack of support from the Chruch.

A nun from Kannur on Friday alleged that she was sexually abused by the Jalandhar Bishop Franco Mulakkal between 2015 and 2017.

The 35-year-old victim is also a witness in the rape case against Mulakkal, who was arrested in 2018 following allegations by another nun that he repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted her between 2014 and 2016.

The nun belongs to Missionaries of Jesus, the same religious institute the first nun, who has accused Mulakkal of raping her multiple times, is from.
