Kerala panchayat member marries after taking oath

Sajad Salim from Thrikkovilvattam, in Kollam district, took part in his oath-taking ceremony and straight away headed to his scheduled wedding ceremony.

Kollam: Monday proved to be a double bonanza for Sajad Salim who has been elected as a Panchayat member in the recent local body elections in Kerala as he took oath and got married the same day.

Sajad Salim from Thrikkovilvattam, in Kollam district took part in the oath-taking ceremony, and from there, went straight to his marriage ceremony that was already scheduled.

Sajad’s marriage was fixed with Ansi, from Kannanallur and was scheduled for Monday, 22 December months ago. However, the election was declared thereafter which he contested and won.

Coincidentally that the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected representatives happened on the same day as that of his marriage.

Sajad started taking his oath by thanking his voters in Thrikovilvattam and then sought the blessings of all elders at the Panchayath and went straight to the bride’s house for the marriage ceremony.

The wedding happened in front of his family members adhering to the COVID protocol. Sajad’s bride Ansi said Sajad had told her earlier that he was a politician and social worker and that she likes it.

Kudumbasree worker Sajad, who contested as a Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) candidate at Thrikkovilvattam Kannanallur town 8th ward, in a quadrangular fight, won the United Democratic Front (UDF) sitting seat. In a neck to neck fight between the Left Democratic Front (LDF), UDF and Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) candidates, the voters gave Sajad a majority of 48 votes and painted the ward red.

Of the total 1752 polled votes, Sajad won 551 for the Left, while the candidate of SDPI won 503 and the League candidate got only 426 votes and finished third.
