Most of these daily workers have not worked since March 21. They haven't been paid salaries and have no money or food left to support them, so they have now started their journey back home, thousands of kilometres away.

Chalakudy: Daily wagers from Uttar Pradesh who were stranded in Kerala decided to go back to their native state on bicycles on Friday.

Due to coronavirus pandemic, the whole nation is under lockdown with no travelling avenues.

Migrant workers in Kerala's Chalakudy, seeing no other option took the decision to commute on their own to their families in Uttar Pradesh.

They were facing various issues pertaining to lodging, food and other essentialities.

Jiyender Singh, Mohan Sharma, Ajith Singh, Devendra Singh used up their savings and bought new cycles.

After travelling a few kilometers, they were spotted by social workers who offered food to them.

In a first since the lockdown began, the Railways on Friday ran a special non-stop train to ferry 1,200 stranded migrants from Hyderabad's Lingampally to Hatia in Jharkhand.
