Kozhikode: A 42-year-old man, who attempted suicide after being assaulted by CPI (M) workers, died at Kozhikode Medical College in the early hours of Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Rajesh, a resident of Elathur.
Reportedly, he resorted to the extreme act by dousing himself in petrol on September 15.
He succumbed to burn injuries after undergoing treatment for several days.
While undergoing treatment, he reportedly gave a statement to the Kozhikode magistrate that he attempted suicide after continuously facing harassment from CPI (M) workers.
Rajesh was working as a mussel plucker, but recently, he bought an autorickshaw by taking a loan.
However, CITU members pressurised him for not operating the vehicle in the area.
Meanwhile, two CPI (M) workers have been taken into police custody.
