Malapurram (Kerala): Salim, a native of Malappuram in Kerala converted an auto rickshaw into a car after months of hard work.
The inventor was forced to give up his studies after 10th grade owing to his poor financial condition and eventually became a mechanic for subsistence.
Salim, mostly worked on his little project at night after a day's work at his humble workshop.
"I made this vehicle as I am interested in automobiles. It has a Bajaj engine and the steering box is from a Maruti 800. I had to change the hand gear system of the autorickshaw," said a shy but proud Salim.
Driven by passion, the Keralite has been making several experiments with machines lying around his workshop.
Apart from the car, Salim has also made a machine that helps draw water from deep wells, a remote rocket, and a cricket bat made out of waste, among a host of other things.
Many of the residents of Malappuram have made use of his creations.
