Twenty-three-year-old Faris Rahman, a native of Payyanakkal, Calicut, who is a railway contract worker injured in the incident. It happened at 7 o'clock this morning. After Faris Rahman reached the office, the phone exploded in his pocket when he went to wash his face.
His jeans caught fire and his phone was destroyed completely. With the help of his colleagues, he doused the fire and was immediately rushed to the beach hospital. The initial assessment is that the phone's battery caught fire. Faris said that he will file a complaint in consumer court against the mobile phone company for endangering his life by selling a defective product. He bought the mobile some two years ago.
The exact reason for the explosion of the phone is yet to be identified. The aggrieved youth escaped with injuries in the mishap with no immediate threat to his life. As explosions are mainly due to faulty batteries, suspicions arose about whether some components of the phone battery are defective. If parts of a battery are faulty, then there are ample chances for a volatile reaction to take place leading to a blast.
