Kasaragod: Researchers in Kerala have developed a special 'helmet' that can predict episodes of epilepsy. The Researchers with the Computer Science Department of Kerala Central University in Kasaragod district, have developed a special 'helmet' which can evaluate and analyse human brain waves and predict an episode of epilepsy using Artificial Intelligence.
The development of the helmet took them three long years of research after which the team has also grabbed a patent for their epilepsy prediction ‘helmet’.
The researchers, O K Fasil and, Assistant Professor Dr TM Thaslima, led by Dr R Rajesh, Associate Professor, developed the novel technology of identifying and predicting a possible epilepsy episode. The trio realised the aim to develop a system to help the patients who suffer from epileptic seizures through a low-cost facility to predict their seizure in advance.

The human brain waves are read and analysed through Artificial Intelligence technology. With some minor changes in the algorithm of the present design, the helmet can also predict when one would be sleepy while driving or riding a vehicle and hint in advance, said the researchers' team.
