Kasaragod (Kerala): Albin Benny, a 22-year-old man from Balal in Kerala's Kasaragod, was arrested by the police on Thursday, in connection with the murder of his sister, who died after ingesting an ice cream laced with poison.

The Police concluded that the unnatural death of Ann Mary (16) was a murder. The girl died in her brother Albin's attempt to kill his entire family by giving them ice creams laced with poison. Their parents, Benny and Bessy are also hospitalised and remain critical.

Albin Benny, the prime accused in the case, was taken into custody by the police today. The arrest was also recorded soon thereafter as the accused confessed to the crime in the initial interrogation itself.

According to the police, Albin's intention was to murder his entire family as he wanted to live all by himself without any family interference.

Albin will be produced before the Hosdurg Court on Friday, the police said. The Police team, led by MP Vinod Kumar, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) Kanhangad, is carrying out the investigation.

Ann Mary was taken to a private hospital after she suffered vomiting and diarrhoea. However, she contracted jaundice and died on August 5. On August 6, Benny's condition worsened too and he was admitted to a private hospital in Payyannur, Kannur. The doctors here diagnosed that the condition is due to food poisoning. Benny's kidneys have completely stopped functioning.

The health condition of Benny, who is now under treatment at the Kanhangad District Hospital, is very critical. Bessy, the children's mother is admitted at the MIMS hospital in Kannur.

Albin had earlier said that he was also sick after having the ice cream and had sought treatment. However, the doctors ruled out any indication of Albin having ingested the poison and informed the police.
