Kerala doctor prioritises COVID fight over her marriage ceremony

A doctor from Kerala postponed her wedding ceremony in order to treat the coronavirus patients in the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital, Kannur.

Kannur: A young doctor from Kannur postponed her wedding and decided to continue working in Pariyaram Medical College Hospital in view of COVID-19 crisis.

Dr Shifa M Mohammed, a surgeon working in the Pariyaram Medical College Hospital in Kannur was to get married on March 29. However, the wedding was postponed with the consent of both the families.

Shifa said, “Of course, I am not disappointed because the wedding dates have been postponed. I think the wedding can wait. But the patients who are fighting for their lives because of the deadly virus, can't wait." Reportedly, Shifa’s fiancé, Anas Muhammed, a businessman in Dubai, fully backs her decision.

According to sources, her family had her consent when Shifa said that the prevention of COVID-19 pandemic and the treatment of those affected is her priority now. Further, her commitment to that cause has left her family proud.

Moreover, with a rise in the number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state, Pariyaram Medical College has been converted into a COVID-19 treatment centre.

The hospital is full of patients from Kasaragod district for the treatment of coronavirus. Meanwhile, Kerala on Saturday reported 295 COVID-19 positive cases with two casualties.
