Thiruvananthapuram: Over a month after former Gujarat IPS officer Sanjiv Bhatt was sentenced to life imprisonment in a 1989 custodial death case, his wife Shweta Bhatt met Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala and CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan to seek their support in her fight for justice.
Bhatt on Wednesday called on Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan who assured her that he will take up the issue of her husband who has been jailed in a fraudulent case. She met the Chief Minister along with DYFI President PA Mohammed Riyas after holding a press meet with DYFI leaders.
Sanjiv Bhatt was sentenced to life imprisonment on June 20, 2019. Speaking at the press conference, Shweta stated that the case for which Sanjiv Bhatt has been convicted took a u-turn after the officer filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court in 2011 against Narendra Modi in the 2002 Gujarat riots case, a charge rejected by the courts. She added that the government is hunting down Sanjeev Bhatt for submitting evidence against Modi.
She further expressed her happiness over the 'strong support' she received from the people of Kerala. She was accompanied by her son Shantanu Bhatt.
Earlier in the day, she called on Leader of Opposition and senior Congress Leader Ramesh Chennithala, who assured her of all help.
