Malappuram: The Air India authorities have started clearing the debris of the ill-fated Air India Express aircraft, that had crashed on landing at the Kozhikode International Airport, here on Friday.
The flight from Dubai bound to Kozhikode International Airport in Karipur, Kerala had skidded from the runway, nosedived off the table-top and crashed while attempting to land on August 7, 2020, killing as many as 21 onboard.
The activities of clearing the debris of the aircraft have begun here on Friday under the supervision of the Air India Officials. The Air India team has a detailed plan to take the debris in parts and move it all to another place with a platform which has been readied for the purpose of examining the debris in detail in the Airport premises.
The front portion of the plane, including the cockpit of the aircraft, was lifted using a crane.
The officials have also marked the positions to place all the parts of the plane which would be dismantled and brought in parts and pieces. The debris would be placed in the shape of an aircraft in this marked place without the tyres. No part or spare from the crashed aeroplane would be able to be reused, the Air India officials clarified.

Khalasis (specially-skilled traditional labourers), from Ramanattukara, have been engaged in lifting the plane’s parts from the crash site using the crane. Before moving the debris from the site, technical experts and officials with as many as 12 investigation agencies had visited the site on Friday.
All the parts which have been damaged in the accident have been specially marked in particular before moving them. The agency engaged has been given a contract with a deadline of ten days, to clear all the debris under the supervision of the Air India officials.
For the detailed examinations and follow up probes, the debris of the aircraft would be kept at the Karipur Airport premises itself for another two years, the officials said.
The Air India Express Aircraft from Dubai to Kozhikode carrying 190 passengers had skid from the runway and nosedived into a 60 feet depth off the runway and crashed. As many as 21 persons on board, including the pilot and co-pilot, had lost their lives in the accident.
