Malappuram: This young Kerala labourer was in his rest period after lunch at a construction site when the education Minister C Ravindranath was announcing the State’s Plus Two examination results.
Jayasurya, the construction worker, had appeared for the examinations too, this year. When his fellow workers coaxed him to check the results then itself, he agreed and checked the results online.
He was astonished initially and then, he could not be more delighted. Jayasurya scored A plus in all the subjects he had appeared for in the HSC examination, to his own surprise.
Once he saw the results, Jayasurya first thought of his father Raja Kannan, a Tamil Nadu native, who had come and settled in Malappuram long time ago. Raja Kannan is bed-ridden after he met with an accident 17 years ago.

Jayasurya’s mother Kovindha started a scrap business to sustain the family. However, it was never enough to meet the household expenses and her husband’s medical expenses. Jayasurya also joined and helped her pick scraps from the streets to make a living.
However, his mother did not approve of it. So, he started working as a construction worker on his holidays. When life itself was a lesson, Jayasurya passed in flying colours - the test of life and that of the HSC, gaining A plus in all subjects.
Jayasurya is a student with the Kottakkal Rajas Higher Secondary School, the school which has the highest number of full A plus successes to its credit in the district. Jayasurya’s success is doubly sweet for his teachers and the school. This teenager wants to study further and become a teacher.
For him, challenges are nothing new. He is prepared to face any challenge in life with grit and determination.
