Kochi: India's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier is getting ready for the sea trials. The final phase of construction of the nation's most anticipated aircraft carrier is underway at the Cochin Shipyard. The ship is getting ready for the sea trials after successfully completing the basin test in November 2020. IAC is the most complex warship building project to have been indigenously developed. It has the capacity to accommodate 30 aircraft at a time.
The cables used in the 2,300 compartments of the ship can be extended to 2,100 kilometres. The ship which has a length of 262 metres can travel with a speed of 28 nautical miles. It can easily accommodate over 1500 navy officials. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday visited the IAC being built at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi and said India's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier will be commissioned next year. It will be christened INS Vikrant on commissioning. Rajnath Singh described it as India's pride and a shining example of Atmanirbhar Bharat.
