Thrissur: The famous Guruvayur Sri Krishna temple here in Kerala witnessed unprecedented number of weddings on Sunday with 186 couples tying their nuptial knot in front of the deity.
The temple witnessed a huge rush of devotees and wedding parties as it is the month of Chingam which is considered to be the most auspicious month of the year, according to the Malayalam calendar.
Apart from weddings, 689 first 'rice giving ceremonies' (Choroonu or Annaprasanam) of children were also held in the temple.
Even when the prayers were going on inside the sanctum sanctorum the 'wedding mandapams' were crowded with people waiting for their turn to tie the sacred knot.
There was heavy traffic, as major parking centres were filled and the vehicles were parked by the roadside.
The officials said that many more weddings are scheduled in this month of Chingam and the rush of devotees is likely to be high.
