Palakkad: Midhun Lal, a native of Karunagappally, has brought out fourteen environment-friendly alternatives for banned plastic products. The articles in three different quality grades have been presented at the silver jubilee trade fair organised by the Kerala State Backward Classes Development Corporation here.
Plates, glasses, drinking straws and gift boxes of different sizes made of processed leaves of areca nut palms (Pala in Malayalam), sugarcane bagasse (fibrous waste from sugar cane), bamboo and such naturally sourced raw materials were displayed at the stall. Besides different types of paper plates, Midhun Lal presented coconut shell ice-cream bowls, edible plates made of wheat flour and jaggery and biodegradable carry bags.
Midhun Lal associates with Vivarthana, a palm leaf plate manufacturing unit based in Sreekrishnapuram in Palakkad. He assures that the products he has presented can be manufactured and delivered as per the order requirements of the customers.
