Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala): Major Bishop of Syro Malabar Church in Kerala Cardinal Mar George Alencherry faced a setback in the Syro Malabar Church land deal case as the Kerala High Court ruled on Thursday that Alencherry must face trial in the case. The case is related to losses running into lakhs by selling 60 cents of land owned by the Angamaly Archdiocese of Ernakulam without consulting various committees of the church.
Earlier, Thrikkakara magistrate court registered a case against Alencherry and others and summoned them to appear for the trial. Alencherry moved an appeal in Ernakulam Sessions court against this order. But the court dismissed the appeal. The Cardinal approached the High Court after the Sessions Court upheld the Magistrate Court's order.
