Thrissur: Thinking one step ahead, Viyyur Central Jail on Friday became the first ever high-tech jail in the country. In addition, it will also be the first ever prison to start a television channel named 'Freedom'Channel'.
The jail owns a musical band named 'Freedom Melody' and 'Radio Film Club'. In the near future the jail inmates will be seen working behind and in front of camera.
Initially, the telecast was restricted to the prison premises. However, the authorities are also planning to launch a YouTube channel with the same team.
Freedom channel will air short films made by inmates, comedy show, mimicry, etc. These programmes will be shot a week before the decided date of screening and the editing work will be done within a week's time.

The radio named 'Freedom Melody' started by Viyyur jail is also the first radio station to be broadcasted from a jail in India is also doing well with its programmes. All the anchors and technical team behind radio programmes are the inmates.
Apart from all of these, a modern kitchen, an RO plant and power laundry were inaugurated at the jail on Friday.
