Kottayam (Kerala): Five people in a family were killed after the car got collided with a timber-laden lorry at MC road in Kuravilangad on Friday. According to reports the accident took place around 12am. The deceased are identified as Kottayam Veloor native Thambi, his wife Valsala, grandson Arjun, daughter-in-law Prabha and Prabha’s mother Usha.

The car which was heading towards Ettumanoor collided with the lorry which was carrying timber to Perumbavoor from Kottayam. Following the collision, the car was stuck under the lorry and the passengers in the car got trapped inside. Though the public took initiative for the rescue operations, they failed to take the passengers out from the car.
Later, fire force personnel reached the spot and took the passengers from the vehicle after breaking it. The passengers were immediately taken to medical college. Unfortunately, they were declared dead at the hospital. The bodies are kept at the mortuary in the Govt. Medical College.
Following the accident, traffic was interrupted for more than 50 minutes at MC road. Kuravilangad police arrived at the spot and completed the formalities.
