Gadag: A lush-green and colourful park on the premises of the postal superintendent’s office in Gadag has become the centre of attraction for everyone. The post office employees have built this beautiful park as part of the Central government’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
Senior postal superintendent K Basavaraj’s concern about the environment gave rise to this green initiative. The common people, who visit the post office for their work, resort to the park to relieve their fatigue. They also appreciate the staffers for proper maintenance of the park.
Despite their hectic schedule at work, staff members at the post office maintain the cleanliness of the park.

The park remains squeaky clean with a lush green cover and small tanks for fish and tortoises along with a lotus tank adding to the beauty of the permises.
Drip irrigation method, adopted by the postal employees, has worked wonders for the park. More than 25 kinds of flowering plants, including rose and hibiscus, have been planted in it along with sugarcane and coconut trees. Slowly and steadily, the park has become home to a number of pigeons too.
The post-office employees contribute their share by working for two hours after work every Thursday. They prepare organic manure with the green waste generated in the park and use it to fertilise the plants.
The park has become an example for nearby post-offices who have also begun to adopt the same methods. Several post-offices in the region have now begun to go 'green'.
Senior postal superintendent said, “We have put in consistent efforts to maintain this park. It is the result of the employees' hard work.” In wake of the coronavirus pandemic, efforts like these go a long way in maintaining the surroundings of public offices and keeping them clean and green.
