Mysuru (Karnataka): Mysuru is famous for things like Nada Habha Dasara, Mysore pak sweet, Mysore Jasmine, and many other things. Just like these aforementioned things, Sandalwood too, has helped put Mysore on the map. Mysuru is already famous for its sandalwood oils, soaps, incense sticks, artefacts, etc.
Sandalwood is a tree which gives out a fragrance that is much sought after. Mysore is well known as Shreegandhada Naadu (Area of Sandalwood) because, in 1908, The Kings of Mysore had established the Sandal depot in Mysore. Since then, farmers around Mysore started to grow Sandalwood trees earning a huge profit in the process.
Based on the Depot, now the government is establishing a Sandal Museum inside the palace to create awareness among people and educate sandalwood farmers. According to the reports, the museum will be inaugurated after November 25. News also has it that the sandalwood museum may also be shifted to the luxurious Mysore Palace.
However, a sandalwood museum has been established by the Mysuru Forest division on its premises. The museum is a platform for discerning visitors to know about sandalwood classification, farming techniques, and types of sandalwood. People are also able to see posters with information about sandalwood growth and how they can help prevent diseases.
The museum is equipped with an auditorium, projector, and seating arrangement for visitors to learn about sandalwood cultivation. Reportedly, audio information related to sandalwood will also be given to the tourists.
In the present age, sandalwood trees are perishing. To promote the growth of Sandalwood trees and create awareness, the government is establishing the sandalwood museum.
