Udupi: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi refused to enter a temple at Uchila in Karnataka's Udupi as he had touched a fish gifted to him by a fisherwoman. On Thursday, the Congress leader was attending a programme organised by the fishermen's community. When the meeting was over, a woman out of love gifted the fish to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The woman clicked some pictures with the Congress leader. In the photo frame, Rahul Gandhi was seen touching the fish. The Congress leader was looking happy after receiving the gift.
The event was organised under the aegis of Udupi District Congress. When an interaction programme was over, a large size Anjal fish was gifted to Rahul Gandhi. On Thursday, Rahul Gandhi was at Uchila in Udupi on a campaign trail as few days are left for the Karnataka assembly polls 2023. The state will go to polls on May 10.

Thereafter, Rahul went to Mahalakshmi temple at Uchila situated in Kapu taluk. Before entering the temple, Rahul Gandhi asked some of the priests present there — can he offer prayers to Goddess without washing his hands? The Congress leaders and people belonging to the Mogaveera fishing community, who were accompanying Rahul Gandhi, said there was no issue, he should come to the sanctum sanctorum.
Despite this, Rahul Gandhi stood near the temple door and offered prayers. The priest performed special puja for Rahul Gandhi and also offered 'prasad' to him. Sri Mahalakshmi temple at Uchila is a prominent temple belonging to Mogaveera fishing community.
