Ramanagara (Karnataka): Ramanagara has become the first internet village of Karnataka state with every nook and corner connected to the internet. The Matrybhumi Seva Foundation in association with Youth Broadband has taken up the initiative with the aim of promoting internet use across the village.
Free WiFi connectivity
Visitors to Chikkanahalli village in Channapatna taluk of the Ramanagara district can witness how this internet village has been developed. With the idea of helping students from poor families to join the online classes amid the Covid-19 scare, free WiFi connectivity is provided across the village. Students can attend online classes using this WiFi network. It is a free facility for the students.
It is the first such experiment in the state.
Kudos to the Matrubhumi team
The Matrubhumi team launched this experiment to extend the internet facility to help the children from those families who do not have smartphones and computers.
Four computers have been set up in different places and it is also provided with a free internet connection. Through this, the NGO converted the ordinary village into a tech-savvy one. According to the trust convener, the idea is helping the students to join the online classes besides helping the locals to use the internet for their prosperity.

Digital touch to the village
Along with free WiFi connectivity, this village is now converted into a digital village. Free internet facility has been provided at 25 points of the village. By providing education, health and financial services through these internet points, the village is now being empowered. The villagers are now encouraged to become digital literates.
