Mangaluru (Karnataka): In her own way of helping poor cancer victims, a young woman from Karnataka's Mangaluru donated 24 inches of her long hair to be made into wigs.
Reshma Ramdas, a resident of Mangaluru's Shakti Nagar, was inspired by her friend who had donated hair for cancer victims two years ago. However, she could not find any organisation nearby for the same.
Finally, her husband came to know about the Thrissur Hair Bank. Though the bank's rules mandate that a minimum of eight inches of hair be donated, Reshma went ahead and chopped off 24 inches of her locks for the cause.
"I donated my hair to Thrissur's Hair Bank in Kerala for the poorest of cancer victims. Because of Corona, we could not directly go there, but we sent the hair to the bank by courier," Reshma said.
Reshma's husband Ramdas said that though they did not have enough money to finance the poor cancer victims, they still could donate hair.
"We cannot afford to finance the poor. But we had no problem with my wife's hair donation for poor cancer patients. I am very proud of her work. I am ready to donate my hair if the opportunity presents itself," he said.
