Bengaluru: A man in Bengaluru was allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 13 lakh by online fraudsters, who took money from him under the pretext of procurement of a rare oil to be used for the development of a coronavirus vaccine in the United States.
An FIR has been lodged by Amarnath-a resident of Srinagar, who works as a distributor at a liquid manufacturer company in the city.
As per his complaint registered at the cybercrime police station of the city's south wing, he had been asked to buy a liquid from Meghalaya's Pooja Herbal Company and supply it to a UK company. The complainant said an official from company told him he could help the vaccine developer in procuring the oil, and that he could also earn money in the process.
The complainant, who thought of making some quick money accepted the proposal and transferred 13 lakh rupees to company.
According to police, a complaint has been registered under the Information Technology Act against the accused and further investigation into the matter is underway.
