Karwar (Karnataka): Love knows no boundaries. The emotion of love need not be limited to only human beings. In such an example, the rare bird, Horn Bill has grown an attachment with a family at Honnakeri Village in Karnataka's Karwar district and has become a member of that family.
Every day the hornbill bird comes to the house of Krishnananda Shetty and takes its food. The bird comes to Shetty's family three times a day like a shift schedule. The children of Shetty gives banana and sweets to the bird.
The bird is so affectionate towards Shetty's family that it comes only to their house and plays with the children as well as with the family members.
From the past six months, this hornbill bird is coming to Shetty's house and now most of the people and the relatives of Shetty are coming to see it.
Hornbills are spectacular birds and hard to miss. With their large, yellow coloured beaks, hornbills are easy to spot and are a photographer’s delight. Dandeli in Karnataka is the most popular place to spot hornbills.
Hornbills have been listed as an endangered species and Karnataka Government has been working towards the protection of these birds. In 2011, the state government announced Dandeli forests as Hornbill Conservation Reserve because Dandeli is home to 4 species of Hornbill out of those 9 existing in India.
The famous hornbill festival kicks off in Dandeli town in the state. The festival includes birding walks and many more exciting activities, especially for bird watchers and enthusiasts. There are about 55 different varieties of hornbills around the world. The most common ones spotted in Dandeli are the Malabar Pied Hornbill, Malabar Grey Hornbill, and Indian Grey Hornbill.
