LS Speaker calls for high-level probe in S L Dharme Gowda suicide case

New Delhi: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Wednesday has called for a high-level probe through an independent agency into the death of Deputy Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, S. L. Dharmegowda. 

In this regard, Birla said, "Anguished at the sad news of the demise of Deputy Chairman, Karnataka Legislative Council, S. L. Dharmegowda. My condolences to his family. The unfortunate incident in the House, when he was in Chair, is a serious attack on democracy. It is necessary to have a high-level probe through an independent agency into his death. It is the duty of all of us to safeguard the prestige of legislative bodies and dignity and freedom of Presiding officers.”

Earlier on Tuesday, Karnataka Chief Minister, B. S. Yediyurappa said that the Chikkamagaluru police has got hold of 'suicide note' left behind by the Karnataka Legislative Council deputy chairman.

Yediyurappa told reporters here that the district administration (Chikkamagaluru) has recovered a lengthy death note left by Gowda. The entire death note is also like a will, as it contains several details about his property and other important personal details, therefore, we are not revealing the contents of it at this juncture," he explained.
