CM announces Rs 5 lakh to kin

Chief minister B S Yediyurappa today announced Rs five lakh to next to the kin of people killed in the flood and rain-related incidents in Karnataka, where 12 people have lost their lives.

"I have directed the officials that Rs five lakh should be given to the family members of those killed in the flood within 24 hours," Yediyurappa told reporters in Mudhol and Bagalkote, where he reviewed the flood situation, conducted an aerial survey and visited the victims.

"In the State, in all, 12 people have died (in the flood and rain-related incidents," he said.

Karnataka CM, BS Yediyurappa confirms to Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis that water discharge from Almatti Dam in Karnataka has increased to 4,80,000 cusecs.

Speaking to reporters, CM Yediyurappa said,  "Even Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis spoke with me over the phone and promised to coordinate with us till the flood reduces. We also spoke about water management and he assured that in following days we will sort out all the issues related to water management."

The Union government has promised us funds at the earliest and are cooperating with us in every way possible to rescue people who are caught in floods.

At present, the loss is estimated around Rs 5,000 crore and proper estimation will be made once the situation improves, stated Chief Minister.

4 of family killed in landslide

Four dead in landslide

Four members of a family lost their lives and efforts were on to trace a fifth person after their house was hit by landslide at Korangala village in Kodagu district of Karnataka on Friday, police said.

"Four bodies -- three men and one women -- have been recovered from the spot, while efforts are on to trace a fifth member of the family", a police official said.

Life in Kodagu has come to a standstill following pounding rains in the past few days.

The famous Bhagamandala temple in the district is surrounded by water.

Madikeri-Kushalnagar connectivity is blocked as the Cauvery river waters flooded the highway. The Bethri bridge connecting Madikeri-Virajpet is flooded, official sources said.

As per the last count, nearly 44,000 people have been evacuated from flood-hit and rain-affected areas of Karnataka, where the rain fury has left nine people dead in the past few days.

K'taka: Bus services affected due to heavy rains

Bengaluru (Karnataka): In wake of incandescent rainfall in Karnataka, bus services in certain routes were cancelled.

Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) said that bus services between Mysuru to Madikeri and Mysuru to H D Kote Road routes were suspended keeping in mind passenger safety.


Holealur town in Karnataka was also affected due to floods caused by overflowing of Mallapur dam.

Owing to torrential downpour, hundreds of people were forced to take shelter at Holealur station.

Rescue and relief operations in flood-affected areas are in full swing as the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) has deployed several teams in Karnataka.

The Western Naval Command of the Indian Navy has mobilised considerable resources to provide assistance to state and district administrations of affected areas.

"In Karnataka, the rescue team proceeded to Hinduwada in Malapur area and evacuated many more people giving priority to women, children and critically ill patients to safer areas. Another team was deployed to Kovadu village in Belgaum district. A total of 869 people have been moved to safety in Karnataka," the release had said.
