Mangaluru: Two students from Kerala's Kasaragod committed suicide by consuming poison at a hotel room, near Mangaluru central railway station on October 13.
According to police, they took this step as the parents of the deceased where unhappy and had opposed their relationship as both belonged to different castes.
The deceased have been identified as Vishnu and Greeshma.
Both the students are from Kerala's Kasargod district and were in a relationship for quite some time.
Vishnu, 22, was an MSc student and his girlfriend Greeshma, 21, was a physiotherapy student both studying in a private college in Moodbidri.
Police said that on Friday evening, Vishnu and Greeshma came to Mangaluru and rented a room in a hotel near the Mangaluru Central Railway station.
Later, on Sunday they had consumed poison to end their life.
Mangaluru City Police have filed an Unnatural Death Report (UDR) case and further investigation is underway.
