Bengaluru: Karnataka Health Department made new revelations on Covid cases saying that the state has reported 15,000 breakthrough infections so far. Over 13,000 people tested positive for Covid-19 after getting administered with the first dose of the Covid vaccine, while 2,000 people contracted the infection after taking the second jab across the state. A person getting infected with Covid even after getting inoculated is referred to as a breakthrough infection.

"Everyone must follow Covid guidelines even after vaccination. Breakthrough infections have been reported in all districts from the day vaccination began. But all of them are not being admitted to hospitals. They prefer home isolation and have been recovering soon. There will be less severity of the disease if you get infected by Covid after the vaccination. Still, first dose recipient should be aware of the virus," said K.V. Trilok Chandra, Health Commissioner.

Further, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike survey revealed that 20% of vaccinated people and 80% of unvaccinated people are getting infected with the coronavirus. The fatality rate among vaccinated people is 15 to 20% while it is 80 to 85% among unvaccinated people. In the last two weeks, 32 Covid positive patients have been admitted to ICU in Bengaluru out of which 25 are not vaccinated and seven are vaccinated.
